Innovative Biofuel Solutions

At TheTop Energy, we are committed to sustainable energy solutions that drive economic growth, environmental stewardship, and social progress. Through ethical oil seed sourcing, we empower farming communities to grow organically while fostering a consumer-first mindset in the biojet fuel and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) industry across Africa.

Thetop Energy is plans to establish its first Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production facility in Mombasa, Kenya, to deliver clean, renewable energy solutions pioneering two Pathways of Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA) and Fischer-Tropsch (FT) Process.

HEFA Pathway

To advance Africa’s SAF production capacity, TheTop Energy plans to establish a 2x100TPD (787BPD) modular refinery facility in Mombasa, Kenya, utilizing the HEFA Pathway to produce SAF/Biojet fuel, along with key byproducts such as biodiesel, naphtha, propane, organic fertilizer, animal feed, and fuel briquettes for community use.

To ensure a strong feedstock supply chain, TheTop Energy will deploy several 15-35TPD mechanical crude vegetable oil (CVO) extraction plants through Community Hubs in key agricultural regions. Additionally, CVO collection trucks will transport oil from farms nationwide to the refineries. To further enhance capacity, 2x 500TPD (3,417BPD) CVO mechanical and solvent oil expellers will be established at the Mombasa facility, complementing community-based oil expellers while also processing imported oil seeds for both domestic use and export.

Fischer-Tropsch (FT) process

THETOP ENERGY Fischer-Tropsch (FT) process plant will scale production from 21.28TPD (167BPD) SAF in Phase 1 (2025) to 106.40TPD (837BPD) by Phase 5 (2030), producing 38,836 metric tons/year at full capacity.

Leveraging catalytic green hydrogen (H₂) production, Direct Air Capture (DAC), and Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis, the SAF achieves an 80% emissions reduction (0.63 kg CO₂e/kg vs. 3.16 kg CO₂e/kg for fossil jet fuel), meeting ASTM D7566 standards.

Biofuel Blending Strategy

The SAF produced will be blended with JET-A1 fuel in compliance with ReFuelEU Aviation regulations, similarly the Biodiesel will also be blended with Automative Gas Oil (AGO).

Kenya will serve as the pilot country (Phase 1) before expanding into South Africa, Nigeria, and Ethiopia (Phase 2).
